Healthy Pet Food
Do you know what ingredients to look for in healthy pet food? About a year and a half ago I came across some literature on what is found in commercial pet food. I never gave it too much thought, always buying what was on sale or the least expensive. It finally dawned on me…do I feed myself only food that is on sale or the least expensive?? I certainly wanted what was best for my little pal and to prolong her life. I was shocked to find out the food I was feeding Marley contained hydrochloric acid...certainly not healthy pet food! I was uneducated about reading a pet food label, but quickly learned the ingredients to avoid…animal by-products, wheat, corn, soy or glutens, chemical preservatives. Proteins should always be first or second, preferably with two or three meats in the first five ingredients. I was also led to believe that you should never change your pet’s diet; I’ve discovered that offering a variety of food every 3-4 months can decrease the chance of your dog becoming sensitive or allergic to certain ingredients. So here we’ve included the dog food brands we have researched to be top quality, high in protein, low in grains & fillers. We certainly don’t claim to be experts on healthy pet food, so please do your own research. But we do know how important an informed decision is regarding the food we choose for our pets.
