Summer Fun!

Greetings from The OC Dogumentary! Our apologies for the delay from our last issue, but we have certainly been busy having fun in the sun!

What have we been up to? April 11th - 13th marked America’s Family Pet Expo in Costa Mesa where ocdogfriendly, Jake's Dog Foundation and Falco K9 Academy shared a booth, met plenty of new friends and had a great time at the world’s largest pet and pet product expo.

April 26th marked the 15th Annual Wag-a-Thon benefiting The San Clemente/Dana Point Animal Shelter which included a 4K Walk around the harbor, "Best Pet Trick" & "Best Pet Costume" Contests, celebrities & shopping in the Bowser Bazaar where we were proud to sponsor a booth.

Next up? You’ll find us at the 2008 DAWG Walk, Pet Faire & Pancake Breakfast on June 28th benefiting DAWG and the Mission Viejo Animal Shelter. Look for more information below under our June dog friendly events.

Jake's Dog Foundation

We’ve are also pleased to introduce Jake’s Dog Foundation, whose goal is to improve the lives of people and dogs through knowledge, compassion and mutual respect via the training and placement of therapy and service dogs.

Our partner Falco K9 Academy has been training numerous kinds of service dogs since its inception in 1995, from guide dogs for the blind to police K9s, and now dogs such as Boo. Although we would like to help make service dogs available for all who need them, what we have found is there is no way around the costs. In addition to families who are struggling to make ends meet, some police departments are also not able to budget for their K9 units. As a result, many cities are suspending their programs while others will never even start them. Police dogs are often the most effective tool a department has for detecting illegal substances and assisting in pursuit and apprehension of suspects, and it seems a waste not to utilize their diverse skills and talents. It is for these reasons that Jake’s Dog Foundation was created. The Foundation exists to shoulder all or some of the financial burden of purchasing, training and maintaining service dogs for individuals, families or public entities that cannot afford them through conventional means. Each requestor must be able to show a need for the service dog, and prove that they have previously made an effort to fund the program themselves.

Quotes from the Dog Pound

He is so shaggy. People are amazed when he gets up and they suddenly realize they have been talking to the wrong end. ---Elizabeth Jones

---------------------------------------------------------------------

With the exception of women, there is nothing on earth so agreeable or necessary to the comfort of man as the dog. ---Edward Jesse, Anecdote of Dogs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They never talk about themselves but listen to you while you talk about yourself, and keep up an appearance of being interested in the conversation. ---Jerome K. Jerome

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But with dogs, we do have "bad dog." Bad dog exists. "Bad dog! Bad dog! Stole a biscuit, bad dog!" The dog is saying, "Who are you to judge me? You human beings who've had genocide, war against people of different creeds, colors, religions, and I stole a biscuit?! Is that a crime? People of the world!"

"Well, if you put it that way, I think you've got a point. Have another biscuit, sorry." ---Eddie Izzard
